Etsy inspired Saturday…

Posted by Catherine on March 14, 2009

…it just goes to show that you could find inspiration in so many different places!  Ashley from Heart Hugs has found the perfect place for inspiration for her challenges – ETSY!  Who woulda thunk it, huh?  I sure wouldn’t have, but after having participated in my first challenge, it is AWESOME!  Definitely a good place to have a poke around if your mojo just needs a little nudge in a certain direction!

The Etsy store being featured is TR Mack Studio and it was >> THIS << particular print that I used for inspiration…kind of…

Ta-daaaa!  I was definitely feeling the colour gradient and the circled background and swirlies reminded me of my neglected Cuttlebug folders, you know which ones!  So I pulled out my wonderful Big and Juicy pad in Birthday and my brayer.  I stamped my image using my oh so Tuxedo Black (whenever I say that, it always reminds me of Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon – anywho…) Memento ink and quickly covered the entire image with fine embossing powder so that the image will stay nice and black as I started brayering.  Anywho….because the black was already so striking against the background, I didn’t want to add too much more to it so I stamped my sentiment using Versamagic Dew Drop ink in GOLD onto a piece of acetate and heatset it real quick so the ink would set.  I didn’t want the sentiment right up against the card so I popped it up on pop-dots and covered the pop-dots with brads.  I removed the tails of the brads using some clippers and just used the round top that I dyed black using alcohol ink.  I love how it turned out…with the gradient colours and the gold on top, it kind of has a Taj Mahal-y feel to it…or is that just me? *LOL*

So if you are needing a different turn of style or inspiration, check out Ashley’s blog for this Saturday’s Etsy Inspired Challenge – what makes it even better is that this week’s challenge is being hosted by Marti over at Pez-a-Doodle Designs! w00t!  Participating in the challenge could win YOU a $20 gift certificate to Pez-a-Doodle Designs (which is PERFECT timing because a lot of the 2009 CHA new releases are arriving constantly to Marti’s doorstep ready to be packed and shipped off to YOU!  Another even better deal is that the entire PDD site is discounted so there’ll be more bang for your buck!  Sale ends soon so make sure you participate!)  As an added bonus, Ashley’s also got a PDD COUPON CODE for those of you who want to get a jump start on some SPRING SHOPPING!

Thanks so much for dropping by today!  I hope your weekend is off to a great start, mine sure has!  Bart had an all-day class today leaving me and Chewy to our own devices, so I packed Chewy up into the car and we headed off to the local farmers market – it’s a BEAUTIFUL day today, perfect time for Chewy and Mommy time outside!  Chewy was the star of the market and received a lot of attention while Mommy stuffed her face with delicious market goodies!  Once we got home, Chewy napped at my feet while I played in my scraproom.  Tonight we are headed off to the in-laws so Chewy can have a slumber party with them and then we are off to a Stag & Doe!  Our first of two, we have another one next week of which we’ll be more involved though!  Wishing you a happy weekend, thank you so much for taking the time to stop by!

Confessions of a CHA Convention-er (Part 3 – Tim Holtz)

Posted by Catherine on January 24, 2009

WELCOME TO CHA!

…Day Two – Edumacation day!

So, the much talked about Tim Holtz class was EVERYTHING that I was expecting it to be – and more! w00t!

I can definitely understand why Tim’s got such a strong following! He is an energetic, out-going speaker and he definitely knows.his.stuff! You can automatically tell that he knows what he’s talking about and that he LOVES what he’s talking about – which makes you love it too!

So today in class, we busted out the new lights and brights line of Alcohol Ink (yes, they’re important enough to capitalize) and oooooh-wee! I WANT THEM ALL; heck that’s not true, I NEED them! Okay, on to the project:

Tim’s Colour Your Creativity Class! So there’s our little kits there, co-ordinating colours of alcohol ink in the new lights, brights and earthtones and one metallic mixatives, an archival ink pad, an felt ink tool, ghost shapes and the NEW alcohol ink pen! We also walked away with one of the new release STAMP SETS! Ooooh baby, yes we did! Okay, so the rest of the project:

DO YOU LOVE IT OR WHAT?!?! So let’s have a look, the first picture is grungepaper with the word CREATE cut out with the Cricut – as well as the flourish and then covered with metal tape to emboss – to avoid scratches and ugly marks, we embossed with a large blending stub. VERY COOL idea!

We painted with our new alcohol ink pen (kind of resembles Copics) and stamped with our new stamp sets, using different alcohol ink techniques (tutorials are available on Marti’s website (http://www.pezadoodle.com/). So if you have EVER been scared to try alcohol inks, now is the time to TRY THEM! Don’t be afraid, the ink will come off (well, except from your hardwood floors, so don’t play on that! The Mister noticed my sanded areas on the floor where I tried to hide the ink!) and you get such AWESOME things every single time!

Aaaaand that’s Marti and I with our new BFF Tim! w00t!

I am loving how I roll!
