Etsy inspired Saturday…

Posted by Catherine on March 14, 2009

…it just goes to show that you could find inspiration in so many different places!  Ashley from Heart Hugs has found the perfect place for inspiration for her challenges – ETSY!  Who woulda thunk it, huh?  I sure wouldn’t have, but after having participated in my first challenge, it is AWESOME!  Definitely a good place to have a poke around if your mojo just needs a little nudge in a certain direction!

The Etsy store being featured is TR Mack Studio and it was >> THIS << particular print that I used for inspiration…kind of…

Ta-daaaa!  I was definitely feeling the colour gradient and the circled background and swirlies reminded me of my neglected Cuttlebug folders, you know which ones!  So I pulled out my wonderful Big and Juicy pad in Birthday and my brayer.  I stamped my image using my oh so Tuxedo Black (whenever I say that, it always reminds me of Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon – anywho…) Memento ink and quickly covered the entire image with fine embossing powder so that the image will stay nice and black as I started brayering.  Anywho….because the black was already so striking against the background, I didn’t want to add too much more to it so I stamped my sentiment using Versamagic Dew Drop ink in GOLD onto a piece of acetate and heatset it real quick so the ink would set.  I didn’t want the sentiment right up against the card so I popped it up on pop-dots and covered the pop-dots with brads.  I removed the tails of the brads using some clippers and just used the round top that I dyed black using alcohol ink.  I love how it turned out…with the gradient colours and the gold on top, it kind of has a Taj Mahal-y feel to it…or is that just me? *LOL*

So if you are needing a different turn of style or inspiration, check out Ashley’s blog for this Saturday’s Etsy Inspired Challenge – what makes it even better is that this week’s challenge is being hosted by Marti over at Pez-a-Doodle Designs! w00t!  Participating in the challenge could win YOU a $20 gift certificate to Pez-a-Doodle Designs (which is PERFECT timing because a lot of the 2009 CHA new releases are arriving constantly to Marti’s doorstep ready to be packed and shipped off to YOU!  Another even better deal is that the entire PDD site is discounted so there’ll be more bang for your buck!  Sale ends soon so make sure you participate!)  As an added bonus, Ashley’s also got a PDD COUPON CODE for those of you who want to get a jump start on some SPRING SHOPPING!

Thanks so much for dropping by today!  I hope your weekend is off to a great start, mine sure has!  Bart had an all-day class today leaving me and Chewy to our own devices, so I packed Chewy up into the car and we headed off to the local farmers market – it’s a BEAUTIFUL day today, perfect time for Chewy and Mommy time outside!  Chewy was the star of the market and received a lot of attention while Mommy stuffed her face with delicious market goodies!  Once we got home, Chewy napped at my feet while I played in my scraproom.  Tonight we are headed off to the in-laws so Chewy can have a slumber party with them and then we are off to a Stag & Doe!  Our first of two, we have another one next week of which we’ll be more involved though!  Wishing you a happy weekend, thank you so much for taking the time to stop by!

Think ink – part two…

Posted by Catherine on October 21, 2008

…so I posted that birthday card I recently made on the Cricut board and a few people mentioned that they were a little bit intimidated of inks.

My only thought was, “Don’t be!” I used to be, too – but you just have to be willing to play around and get dirty (your desk, your papers, your projects, your fingers…LOL…and in my case, the floor and what you’re wearing) and you’ll come up with some pretty fabulous things!

I thought I would put together a few things to show what fun things can be done with ink pads!

Inks pictured: Kaleidacolor, Studio G, Brilliance Dew Drops, Adirondack
Other materials: Glossy cardstock, Rubber Brayer

As always, supplies (unless otherwise stated) are from Marti over at Pez-a-Doodle! (Actually, I’m looking at the picture now and ALL materials are from Pez-a-Doodle! What are you waiting for? Get over there!)

First I just started by playing around with background stamps and glossy cardstock (I heart glossy cardstock!) Take your background stamp and pick a few random ink pad colours. Mix them up, they don’t really need to be all one brand! The only thing to remember though is stamp light colours before stamping on the darker colours – less likely to contaminate a darker coloured ink pad with light colours than it would be the other way around! And voila, you get something like this:

Background Stamp a Pez-a-Doodle exclusive!

Pretty! Just an easy, simple way to dress up a background stamp – rather than have it being one solid colour!

Another way to get some colour on that glossy cardstock:

You can NOT go wrong with multicolour inkpads! I used Kaleidacolor in Fruit Cake and Cappuccino Delight and using a brayer, applied all the bright pretty colour onto my cardstock! The whole technique was so laid back, I didn’t even worry about where the colour was going, I just brayered the whole piece like crazy until I was satisfied with the colour. Decorate to your heart’s desire!

Did these sound easy to do? Well then what are you waiting for? Get out your inks and play!
