Enchanted fairies…

Posted by Catherine on March 25, 2009

…for a fairy happy birthday!

Hi everyone!  I’m back and I’m CER-TI-FIED! Copic Certified that is!

Yesterday was the Copic Certification course and I made the two hour trek over to Brampton to play with markers!  It was so funny, when I booked the day off and my co-workers were asking me where I was going or what I’d be doing, I was like…oooh you know…*coughs* colouring *coughs* HAHAHAHA…some people just don’t get it.

Anywho, I was a teeny, tiny bit late getting into the class due to the insane amount of traffic I had to weave through…*sighs* if you were on the 401 yesterday and saw a black Honda with a crazy little asian driver at the wheel looking slightly deranged, that might have been me!  If the crazy little asian driver looking slightly deranged had ink stains on the fingers that were gripping the wheel in a death grip, that really WAS me! HAHAHAHA…

So the class went very well!  It was so informative and really got to the background of Copics and the nitty gritty of the right papers and inks and techniques!  You can’t get any better than having Marianne Walker walk around to each of your tables to demonstrate each individual technique!  I definitely have a lot to practice, but after the class, I’m definitely not as intimidated by the markers as I once was!  Now where’s MY COPIC BLINKIE!? *LOL*

The other day was a very bad day for me too.  I was baaaad!

Studio G Series 28

Wood Mounted

Studio G Series 27

*SQUEALS* They are so.freaking.CUTE!  I’d roll all over them and throw them up in the air à la Demi Moore in that one movie, however, like my Stickles, my Studio G’s like to be un-rolled on – I imagine the wouldn’t stamp as well…

So before my hubby could get bent out of shape about the purchase (he still doesn’t really know about it actually…what’s a marriage without a little mystery in it to keep it exciting!? *LOL) I turned around and USED them! ALREADY! I know!!!  Avid Studio G collector I am no more! I am a Studio G USER!  Join me, won’t you?

Inside of the card says: "Have a fairy happy birthday!"

Oh I *LOVE* those fairies!  I love the WHOLE set!  I LOVE Studio G’s! *hyperventillating*  HAHAHAHA…you just can NOT go wrong with this set…it’s so whimsical and fancy free, plus there are also some cute images in it for a more cutesy look!

I used SCS sketch challenge SC220 for the basic idea for the card idea – twisted it around a little bit, but the spiritof the sketch is there!  To add to the woodsy, foresty, fairy feel, I pulled out my glossy cardstock and alcohol inked my background.  I ran out of the felt for my ink applicator tool, so I used the foam and it worked just as well.  Using Lettuce and Eggplant on my foam applicator, I randomly stomped on my glossy carstock until the entire cardstock was inked.  I turned to my wonderful blending solution and soaked my foam blending tool and dabbed that all over my inked carstock to create some wonderful effects with the ink that was already laid down.  But I wasn’t done yet!  Next, I squirted Stickles and Glitz Stickles in Patina and another colour I can’t remember and I blended that wonderful glitterlicious goodness ALL OVER to create an awesome glittered, alcohol inked background.  It’s GOOOOOR-JUS!

Next, I stamped my Enchanted stamp into versamark and then covered it with wonderfully smooth, rich, creamy Versamagic ink and heat embossed for the raised look on my oval nestability shape.  I left the die on the shape while I chalked around the perimeter.

Lastly, my wonderful fairies got a little treat of what I learned from my Copic class and the blending techniques.  They’re so tiny you can’t really see it, but I also heat embossed them too to make them REALLY stand out and I shimmered them up with some shimmer from my Sakura glitter pens.  A little pop-dots and they were soaring all over my card!

That’s pretty much the basics of how I got my card together!  Thanks so much for stopping by and visiting me!

The Move…

Posted by Catherine on March 3, 2009

…so I know it may seem that the move to a different blog host was pretty sudden, and I guess it actually was.  I had been turning the idea of moving hosts for a while in my mind and I decided to try out WordPress for the different features that they offered that Blogger didn’t have available.  I thought it would be a lengthy process to get everything moved over which is why I didn’t bother mentioning anything about it.  Then when I actually looked into starting to move my posts, the IMPORT function made it so that the whole process took roughly around 5 minutes, and I think that’s more to do with my internet connection than the process itself!  It was easy peasy!

So here I am with all my posts imported to this new blog hosting site…and I’m sitting here thinking…well, no time like the present, right!?!  So I went for the move and started the process!  I’m really sorry if anyone got annoyed or inconvenienced with the move.  I tried to make it as easy as possible and I promise that it doesn’t look like I’ll be moving anywhere else any time soon.  I’m actually hoping to one day secure my own domain name and just have everything in one location.  But baby steps…I just finished my very first move and all!  I hope that you like the new layout and the organization.  To take you on a quick walk-through, one of the features that I really liked that WordPress offered was the idea of filing posts into categories – not just adding tags to a post.  So I have a few permanent Categories available (you can see them on the left-hand side of the menu) and these are the more general files that I will “file” my posts into.  A lot of it will fall into Ramblings (like this post will), but wherever I have a post that pertains to Altered Projects, Cards, DT Projects, etc. you’ll find them in that specific file.  WordPress also has tags available, so I have tried to be very specific with my tags (while making the move, I realized I had a lot of funny tags on some of my posts), but this will make it easier for me to find projects and specific posts that I’m wanting to find.

Anywho, I hope that you’ve found me here in my new little home, maybe I should have a blog-warming party! *LOL*  I had meant to post this card yesterday, but looking at my Photobucket, realized that I didn’t really like the way the photos were taken.  The foiled design on my paper kind of made it so that the reflections came back a little bit weird…

I haven’t done a lot of birthday cards, so this is my kind of lame-o attempt at a male birthday card.  It didn’t really turn out that way because I kept leaning towards the foiled patterned paper and I guess swirlies and butterflies aren’t all that manly…but a birthday card nonetheless!

Thank you for tracking me down and visiting me today!  I hope you have a wonderful day – snow and all, for most of us!

Have Your Cake…

Posted by Catherine on February 10, 2009

…oh how I can’t wait for the long weekend coming up! Thank you to all who decided that there should be a statutory “Family Day!” I will most likely ignore mine and lock myself up in my scraproom to play! *LOL* But again, just like Valentine’s Day, I don’t think that we should have called this extra day off “Family Day” anyways. It just makes it seem like that’s the day that families should be getting together to do things, and I think that should be done on a waaaay more regular basis than when someone up there says we should. To me, Sundays are family days. Maybe they should call it “EXTRA Family Day” so that people don’t get confused! Hahaha, okay I’m off my soapbox! We all know that the extra day off was just to give people a break from the Winter Blues and the looong days – so I really shouldn’t be look a gift horse in the mouth, now should I? I’m just sayin’…

Anywho! I have broken through the strong hold that PINK has on me! Today’s card is NOT PINK! I don’t think there’s even any pink at all (albeit, a teeny, tiny bit in the patterned paper – which is not my fault!). I also took a break from babies (there was actually a reason why i was doing ‘baby’ kind of cards. My cousin’s baby shower is coming up next month and I had a couple requests to make some cards for the occasion) and came up with this birthday card!

Can you believe I’ve had this stamp for almost a year now and haven’t used it on ANYTHING!? It’s already been inked because I think I tried everything out once I got it, but I haven’t put it on a project at all! WOW! And here I am thinking I need more things! (Well, I still do…that doesn’t change anything…LOL).

So that’s my birthday card! I don’t know exactly who I’ll be giving it to, but at least for any birthdays that sneak up on me, I know I’ll be prepared! So like I said before, the photograph came up a bit more saturated than it really is. The yellows aren’t really that dark…it’s more of a bright sunshine yellow, but I didn’t really have time to go in and edit it (okay, I didn’t feel like it!). But it’s nice and cheery – which is how the weather has been looking for the past couple of days! Goodbye winter blues, hel-LOOOO COLOUR!
