…here’s another shot of that hole-y card. I wasn’t please with how blurry the other one was.

Split decisions…

Posted by Catherine on March 9, 2008

…after looking though the posts on The Board again, I have decided on two things that I had been turning over in my mind for some time (and by some time, I mean about a week since I only joined The Board two weeks ago).

Before I get to the decision, you may have noticed that I refer to The Board (the Cricut board, for all you out there not in the know) in capitalized letters. This is because in grade school I learned that you must capitalize important words. Names and places and The Board. If you are already a member of The Board, you will understand its utmost importance. Thus it shall be held in the highest of regards. (Although I’m sure my wallet and The Mister would disagree, but we didn’t ask them for their opinion).

Anyways, I have decided that it is an absolute must that I own Design Studio. With all the different things you can do with the baby bug and carts, it’s a travesty that I don’t get Design Studio to maximize and harness in all the potential. Really, I’m doing myself an injustice by delaying…

The second decision I have come to a…well, decision about is that Nestabilities is a must-have. Collecting them (and being able to afford them) is like a hobby all on its own! What I’m still trying to decide is if I should just buy each set one at a time, slowly, off of ebay, or just suck it up and just get the whole set in one fell swoop.

In any case, although I have made the decision once and for all, the actions have to be somewhat delayed. Until the next payday of course – and probably the next pay day after that.

Note to self: I also need a printer…

While The Mister is away…

Posted by Catherine on March 9, 2008

…the wife will play! With Cuttlebug, Cricut and other scrapping/cardmaking things, that is.

Sometimes it’s hard for me find time to scrap/cardmake with so many other things going on. After work I usually head to the gym right away – stopping off at home first just makes it too tempting to stay home! Then right after the gym, The Mister and I usually have to eat and then if it’s not spending time together, then it’s a free moment for me.

So even though it MAY sound bad that I’m kind of happy that The Mister is otherwise pre-occupied, it’s only because I always feel bad wanting to scrap/cardmake instead of spending the little extra time I have with him.

I think he likes it when I’m busy too, because I know there are things he would like to get done, but puts aside to spend time with me. So enough of the guilt!

While The Mister went to see his parents to borrow their snowblower (because it is SUCH a necessity right now – I hate when the snow plow comes through right after we’ve finished shoveling), I got to lounge around in my work-in-progress scraproom and look at The Board and get some ideas. The creative mojo still seems to be MIA so here are the rather unimaginative cards I made, plus two SusieB-esque ones.

Pretty plain kind of card, I really just wanted to play with the Cricut and see what else I could cut. Coloured the flowers with Prismas and Mona Lisa and then glitter glued them (from the dollar store as my Stickles are ALSO MIA). The ribbon is just from my own stash – I think it’s leftover wedding ribbon.

I just got a new camera and still trying to figure out how all the functions – I have no idea why this came out blurry, but laziness is preventing me from re-taking the shot. Let me see…the two puffy butterflies are from a big pack from the dollar store as is the smaller plastic butterfly. This one is pretty plain looking even though a lot of freaking effort went into it – and pain. I hauled out my Making Memories eyelet setting kit and punched two different sized holes for decoration…and when I was done punching, I was pretty much done with the card. Hence the quickie Studio G ‘thank you’ stamp. Meh…

A little scraplifting action here from SusieB. Gotta love her Cuttlebug cards. So here’s my little take on it…the embossed lines are ridiculously lopsided as I have yet to receive my Scor-it and just tried to use the trackline of my paper cutter. BAH. Anyways, once again I embossed the paper with my one and only embossing folder, leaving a blank space in the middle. I used my Studio G stamp (OMG, I SO hope that I get my Penny Black and House Mouse stamps SOON) and coloured with Prismas and Mona Lisa. Since I already had the eyelet setter out, I punched a couple holes just for added hole-y-ness.

Yes, in the four hours that The Mister was gone, I only got four cards finished – two of them of questionable yuckiness. Ah well…this next card is another SusieB bite. You can’t really see it all that well, but the bottom left-hand corner is embossed with the bunny blowing heart-shaped bubbles. The ribbon is once again leftover stock.

So there it is. Way more time invested on The Board and two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches later, I cranked out four cards. The funny thing is, my best friend’s birthday is next week and I really wanted to make her a birthday card, but none of the things I made are really birthday material. Ah well, go figure…

Here’s for MORE SHIPMENTS this week!

Let it snow…

Posted by Catherine on March 9, 2008

…it was going to keep snowing anyways! So instead of being sad about it, I chose to have a wonderful time being snowed in with The Mister, Buffy and all my fun scrap stuff. I did spend a more significant amount of time with the first two, but I did get some things done.

I’m still under the impression that my cards won’t be 100% fabulous until I get all the things that I have on order, but what can ya do? I also figured it was time to stop buying things and then just staring at them. You know another thing I’ve discovered from my recent buying craze? Before, when I had all my stuff in one little box, I knew everything I had and could think of different things to make using only those things. Now with everything I’ve bought, I don’t remember all the stuff I have! I think before I start creating things, I’ll have to give my stuff a onceover.

Off topic here for a minute, can I just say how completely jealous I am of some people’s craft rooms? Looking at everyone’s craft rooms on The Board is my most favourite thread to look at and I just can’t believe the extensiveness of some of them. Oh well, something my little corner of the room can aspire to! The Mister and I are actually renting out the basement to two of our friends. It’s pretty much like a whole other apartment downstairs, with it’s own kitchen, washroom, living room and two bedrooms. Is it bad I’m imagining turning all that into a scrapping area right now? Maybe The Mister will be willing to build me a nice mini-cottage scrap room in the backyard. Like those children’s playhouses…only slightly bigger – and with heat! OoOoOooOoh…

Back on topic. Here is what it looks like outside this morning:

If you look at the picnic table, that’s actually the amount of snow we got from Friday evening and all of Saturday.

So with that going on, this is what I got done!

Let me see…the white cardstock is from Wal-Mart, the black cardstock is from a cardstock package – probably from M’s and it’s been Cuttlebugged with my one and ONLY embossing folder (where, oh where ARE YOU, ebay shipment???). I cut two circles from the George cartridge on my Cricut and embossed those as well. The wording is from Cricut and my little ladybug is a wooden shape from a package at the dollar store!

This one was done so I could play with the stamp I’d gotten from M’s the other day. Kind of plain and simple…I’m actually still trying to decide if I even like it. The bunny will be very familiar to you Cricuteers out there (it’s from my Cricut Sampler, if you’re not. Where, oh where ARE YOU, Kim’s Korner shipment???) That’s pretty much it with this card, the sun is a Studio G stamp and everything was coloured using Prismas and Mona Lisa. The doodles around the border as by yours truly. Oh right, I forgot to mention that the bunny kind of pops out a bit – I used those little foam-y dots to make it stand out from the actual card.

Out of the cards I made, I think this one might be my least favourite. I don’t have the whole colouring thing down yet, so I made a little mess of the once-cute butterfly. I embossed the corner of my WM cardstock and then tried to lightly colour the embossed edges. Used a Studio G stamp and some of my little faux prima flowers from ebay with my dollar store brads. More doodling by me – kind of got a little messy actually.

Ah well, just have to keep going I guess and trying out different things! Where, oh WHERE ARE YOU, online order shipments?!?!
